Collage #45

  1. This is gorgeous; but it is also, for me, your scariest collage so far.

  2. I have very little objectivity about these -- scary in what way?

  3. ...perhaps it's the skinned humans hanging from the trees? Or the skinless half fleshless humans and animals wandering around, or the double headed baby or heart submerged in blood-like quicksand or the dark stretch of city up above making everything seem almost upside down. For me these collages are riddled with pain, and riddled is a weak word for what I mean. But sometimes I wonder if they come off as weirdly morbid, which I don't intend them to be.

  4. Certainly, Lynn, all of the images you mentioned contributed to the way the collage affected me. I don't see any of your visual work as being "morbid." It does, however, feel emotionally eviscerating. The pieces vibrate with pain, not sickness. And it all takes place in a context of excess. There's too much to take in at a time. It's powerful, unsettling work which I admire very much.

  5. Thanks Tom. I think eviscerating is probably the exact right word for how I take them to be as well.
